Laura Ann Groff

Laura Ann Groff, age 96, passed away on Thursday morning, January 4, 2024, at Presbyterian Manor in Parsons, Kansas.

She was born on December 7, 1926, in Independence, Kansas to Richard Cole Housel and Alta Alleen (Smith) Housel. Laura, also known as "Larky," was a sassy and feisty woman who always spoke her mind.

Laura attended Cherryvale High School and graduated in 1944. She went on to have a successful career as an office manager for her cousin John Housel Sr., as well as a bookkeeper for the Cherryvale Citizen Newspaper, HD Lee Company, and Dollar Store in Cherryvale.

In her free time, Laura enjoyed playing bingo, taking pictures, and passionately following the Kansas City Chiefs, Kansas Jayhawks, and Kansas City Royals.

Laura is survived by her sister, Maxine Stacy of Parsons, Kansas, her sister-in-law, Gloria Housel of Kansas City, Missouri, three grandchildren - Jeff Groff of Independence, Kansas, Doug Groff of Independence, Kansas, and Kyle Groff of Parsons, Kansas - as well as seven great-grandchildren, Stephanie Groff-Rash of Cherryvale, Kansas, Savannah Groff of Independence, Kansas, Abbi Groff of Bradenton, Florida, Soli Groff of Pittsburg, Kansas, Spencer Groff of Parsons, Kansas, Kaylee Groff of Parsons, Kansas, Kale Groff of Independence, Kansas, 2 great great grandchildren, Teagan Rash and Taylen Rash. She also leaves behind her niece, Debbie Saladino of Kansas City, Missouri, her great-nephew Matthew Saladino of Irvine, California, and her great-niece Kristina Hinton of Kansas City, Missouri.

Laura was preceded in death by her parents, Richard and Alta Housel, her son, Larry Groff, and her brother, Robert J. Housel.

A visitation will be held on Wednesday, January 10, 2024, from 10:30 A.M. until 11:30 A.M. at Wickham Family Funeral Home, located at 216 East 4th, Cherryvale, Kansas. Graveside services will follow at 12 noon at Fairview Cemetery in Cherryvale.

In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to the American Macular Degeneration Foundation or the Cherryvale USD 447 Alumni Association.

Laura Ann Groff will forever be remembered as a remarkable woman who lived life on her own terms and left an indelible mark on the hearts of those who knew and loved her.
