Larry Leon Ellis 66, of Cherryvale, Kansas, went home to be with the Lord on Friday, February 22, 2019 surrounded by his loving family. He passed away due to complications of diabetes. Larry was born on March 11, 1952 in Parsons, Kansas to Leon Ellis and Loretta (Wadsworth) Ellis. He was raised in Cherryvale, Kansas and graduated from Cherryvale High School in 1972.
Larry had various jobs while in high school and after he graduated he started working at Southeast Kansas Agriculture Research for 39 years and retired from there. His hobbies where fishing and hunting. Marvin Wadsworth his uncle was his partner in crime and was a huge part of his life. He also loved playing softball and baseball for many teams in the area and did a lot of traveling. After no longer being able to play he became a coach and an umpire.
Larry married Tini Finkle and had two children and later divorced. On April 2, 1983 he married Debbie Wood and had one child.
Survivors include wife Debbie Ellis of the home, brother Kenny Ellis of Independence, Kansas, sisters, Velma (Rick) West of Cherryvale, Kansas and Sara (Don) Plisek of Sycamore, Kansas. Children, Heather (Dustin) Turner of Quapaw, Oklahoma, Jason Ellis of Vinita, Oklahoma and Summer Ellis of Pittsburg, Kansas. Grandchildren Kwart, Jabes and Kiana Turner, and Rylynn and Jaylei Ellis.
He was preceded in death by his parents, brother Alan Ellis, sister Jeanette Ellis and niece Donna Plisek.
Larry’s family visitation will be held at Wickham Family Funeral Home, 216 East 4th Street, Cherryvale, Kansas from 6:00 to 7:30 P.M. on Friday, March 1, 2019.
Funeral services will be at First Southern Baptist Church in Cherryvale, Kansas at 10:30 A.M., Saturday, March 2, 2019. Interment will follow at Fairview Cemetery, Cherryvale, Kansas.
Memorial remembrances are suggested to the American Heart Association and the Diabetes Association and can be sent to Wickham Family Funeral Home.
