Lamar E. Whitson, Jr. passed away on Friday, April 15th, 2016 at Neosho Memorial Regional Medical Center in Chanute, Kansas. Lamar Jr. was born to Lamar Sr. and Henrietta Whitson on June 5th, 1946 in Neodesha, Kansas. He attended Altoona Elementary and graduated from Thayer High School in 1964. As he grew up, Lamar Jr. enjoyed riding, breaking and training horses, working on the family farm, and spending time with his grandparents. At Thayer High School, Lamar Jr also had a passion for the sports of football, basketball and baseball. Lamar Jr. and Joyce (Umbarger) married on August 5th, 1964 in Fredonia, Kansas. Their marriage was blessed with 3 children; Jayne Elaine, Lamar Edward "LEW" III, and Lewis Earl Sr. Lamar Jr. began his career as an electrician at KK Electric in Chanute, KS. In 1972 the family moved to Tulsa, Oklahoma and Lamar Jr became a certified electrician through Associated Independent Electrical Contractors of America. Lamar Jr. continued to work in Tulsa until the family moved to Altoona in 1977 where he started his own electrical contracting business, A-C Electric, owning and operating the business until his retirement. His faith and family were important to him. Some of Lamar Jr"s favorite past times included playing cards with friends and family, square dancing with his wife Joyce and daughter Jayne, pitching horseshoes with his dad. Other favorite past times with family were hunting and fishing, horses, and the love for Oklahoma football. Lamar Jr. felt blessed and fortunate to spend time with his immediate and extended family. Lamar Jr. is preceded in death by his father, Lamar Sr, his mother Henrietta (Dannels), and sister Karen "Susie" Varndell. Survivors include his wife, Joyce, daughter Jayne and husband Ardell, son Lamar "LEW" III and wife Jill, their children Lamar "Mar E." IV, Jarrett, Haylee, Emma, son Lewis Sr., wife Kirsten and their son Lewis "Whit" Jr; brothers Danny, Don and wife Debbie, Dennis and wife Cindy, and Gerry and wife Karen; mother-in-law and father-in-law Eleanor and Gerald Umbarger, sister-in-law Linda and husband Ron, brother-in-law Philip and wife Lisa, as well as several nieces and nephews. Cremation has taken place with Celebration of Life Memorial Services being held 2:00 P.M., Friday, April 22, 2016 at First Baptist Church of Chanute. The family will receive friends Thursday, April 21, 2016 from 6:00 P.M. until 8:00 P.M. at the church. Private family inurnment will take place at a later date.
