Keith Coats

Keith Coats, 80, a lifelong resident of Fredonia, Kansas, died Saturday, June 14, 2008 at Fredonia Regional Hospital. He was born November 17, 1927 in rural Wilson County, between Fredonia and Neodesha, the son of Sherman and Alta (Jones) Coats. He was a 1945 graduate of Fredonia High School. Following graduation, he enlisted in the United States Air Force and earned the rank of Corporal while serving from 1945-1947. While he was in the service, he was the singer in a military band. Keith worked for Excelsior Brick Yard in his early years. He was a talented automotive service technician, working at the first Sinclair Station in Fredonia, which he was a partner for several years. He also worked at Brown"s Chevrolet for many years and retired from Green"s Tire and Service after more than 15 years. On January 10, 1950 in Fredonia, he married Mary Margaret Houdyshell. She survives at their home. He was a member of the Church of Brethren in Fredonia. His hobbies included watching all types of sporting events, especially the University of Kansas Jayhawks. He also liked to fish and hunt when he was not working. Survivors, in addition to his wife, Mary Margaret, include: One son: Randy Coats of Fredonia, Kansas One sister: Pauline Joy of Fredonia, Kansas Three grandsons: Justin, Jerrod and Jaden Coats Seven Great Grandchildren He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Lester and Paul; four sisters, Arlene, Louise, June and Helen; and two great grandchildren. Funeral services will be held at 1:00 P.M. on Wednesday, June 18, 2008 at Timmons Funeral Home Chapel with Mark Demas officiating. Burial will be in the Fredonia City Cemetery with military rites. Friends may call at Timmons Funeral Home on Tuesday, 2:00 P.M - 6:00 P.M. A memorial has been established in his name with the Feed The Children Ministry and may be sent to the funeral home.
