Julia Nadine Adams

Julia Nadine Adams, 76, a resident of Fredonia, Kansas, died Wednesday, March 5, 2008 at her home after a very lengthy illness. She was born October 30, 1931 in Fredonia, the daughter of William and Alpha (Hardcastle) Manning. She attended school in Fredonia and went on to further her education at Kansas State University and Pittsburg State University. On October 8, 1949 in Fredonia, she married Charles Adams. He survives at their home. Julia was the Food Service Director for USD 484 for 27 years, retiring in 1993. She was responsible for developing the cafeteria style lunch programs for USD 484 and helped to educate students and faculty on healthy eating habits, including adding a salad bar option to the food service choices. Julia was a member of the American School Food Service Association and very active in the Kansas School Food Service Association where she held several state offices. She received numerous awards for her food service programs for the State of Kansas. Julia was well known for organizing hundreds of banquets for school events, including proms, all-sports banquets, honors banquets, and dinner theater, as well as for civic organizations, class reunions, membership meetings and various community activities. Julia was a lifelong member of the First Assembly of God Church in Fredonia. She served the church through her service as a Sunday School teacher to classes from pre-school through adult; directing the church choir for a number of years; serving as a youth leader for Christ Ambassadors and Youth Alive; taking active membership in the Women"s Ministries; and most recently, leading the Senior Adult Ministry (SAM). Julia was also a lifetime member and frequent lecturer for the Weight Watchers program. Survivors, in addition to her husband, Charles, include: Daughters and Spouses: Judy and Don Ballard of Fredonia, KS Brenda and James Taylor of Neodesha, KS Son and Spouse: Herb and Michelle Adams of Fredonia Brothers: Max Manning of Topeka, KS Billy Joe Manning of Highlandville, MO Sisters: Kathryn Mayfield of Topeka, KS Patsy Rice of Omaha, NE Eight Grandchildren: Charles, Lee, Todd and Travis Ballard; Hollie Myers, Heather Harvey and William Adams; Alex Taylor Eight Great-Grandchildren: Jordan, Hannah, and C.J. Ballard, Travis Ballard; Brady Ballard; Jonathan Harvey; Carson and Lauren Myers Two Great-Grandchildren on-the-way. She was preceded in death by her parents; two brothers, Gearl and Gene; and three sisters, Geneva Green-Toon; Wilma Peak; and Sybil Beard. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 A.M. on Saturday, March 8, 2008 at the First Assembly of God Church with Pastor Gary Sherman officiating. Burial will be in the Fredonia City Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home on Friday, 2:00 P.M.-7:00 P.M., where the family will receive friends 5:00 P.M.-7:00 P.M. Memorials have been established in her name with the First Assembly of God Church and Harry Hynes Memorial Hospice and may be sent to the funeral home. Family condolences may be left on this website.
