Judy Arlene Shores

April 13, 1942 — July 24, 2020

Judy Arlene (Fulps) Shores 78, of Chanute, passed away at St. Francis Medical Center in Wichita, KS Friday, July 24, 2020.
Selfless, loving, nurturing, loyal, kind, fun loving…these are all qualities that anyone would love to have associated with them. Judy Shores was all of these things and much more. Born to Harold and Betty Fulps on April 13th, 1942, Judy grew up with two brothers, Eddie and Steve whom she loved dearly, and they cherished her.
While living in Argentine Kansas as a little girl, the love of her life would walk past her house to school every day but she would not meet soft spoken and handsome Chick Shores until high school in Chanute Kansas many years later. Pictures of the couple reminded one of a young James Dean and Natalie Wood. Fate brought them together and the young couple was married on August 30th, 1958.
In 1966 they were blessed with a son, Keith and in 1971 a daughter, Kelly. The children could not have been more blessed had they won the lottery because their parents were priceless.
Judy and Chick raised their children and became the kind of couple that bonded their entire extended family, on both sides, into a tight knit support system. Siblings of both Chick and Judy have been quoted saying “I never thought of Judy or Chick as a brother/sister-in-law, just a brother/sister”. Bottom line…if you needed them, Chick and Judy Shores would never fail you.
At the heart of all of this was Judy. Her hardy laughter, tireless hospitality, huge heart and fierce loyalty forged a legacy that will endure in the hearts of everyone who truly knew her. She was always there with an empathic ear and a sincerely reassuring comment. She was known for her occasionally inappropriate but always endearing humor and hardy laughter and she would always feed you whether you needed it or not. Her generous nature assured she would share or give without a second thought.
Tragedy struck when Chick passed away on June 13th, 2017. She lost her older brother Eddie Fulps soon after. Steve, her younger brother was always there for her.
At 10:00 AM on Friday, July 24th, 2020. Judy’s enormous heart had given all it could to the world and God called her home to be with Chick. As was the case with Chick, the world is a darker place without Judy, but Heaven and Chick are Celebrating.
Judy is survived by one son, Keith Shores of Auburn WA, one daughter, Kelly Rutledge of Chanute, KS, one brother, Steve Fulps of Chanute, KS, seven grandchildren, Keifer, Jurnee, Jesyca, Zack, Josh, Sarrah, and Logan, three great-grandchildren, and the fourth due November 2020.
Judy is preceded in death by her parents, husband, and brother Eddie Fulps.
