Joyce Ann (Tyler) Decker formerly of Derby, Ks. passed away on June 11, 2018 peacefully at home in Cherryvale, Ks. with her children and family at her side.
Joyce was born to Arthur and Zella (Dickens) Tyler on February 6, 1945 in Watonga, Ok. The family later moved to Cherryvale. Joyce attended Cherryvale schools, was a member of Jobs Daughters and married her high school sweetheart, Mike Housel in 1962. To this union two children were born. They later divorced.
After relocating her and her children to Wichita, Ks. to be closer to her sister she worked full time and also took accounting classes to further her education.
On September 2, 1978 she married Billy D Decker and added his 5 children to the union of 39 years. Joyce and husband Bill made their home in rural Derby. Ks and later relocated back to her hometown of Cherryvale, Ks. due to health reasons until Bills death; at that time she resided with her daughter Tonja until her death.
Joyce lived with Multiple Sclerosis for over 33 years from diagnosis. That among many other life changes forced her into early retirement from Boeing Aircraft Co in Wichita, Ks. as a cost estimator in 1986.
She is survived by her children, Tonja Housel-Wolford and husband Keith of Cherryvale, Ks. and Tony Housel and wife Tamie of Derby, Ks.; and her husband’s children Connie Johnson and husband Daryl of Wichita, Ks.; Regina Johnson and husband Dave of Wichita, Ks.; Janice Little and husband Scotty of Derby, Ks. and Wade Decker of Derby, Ks.; a combined total of 15 grandchildren and 19 great grand children; two sisters, Carlene Mann and husband Coy of Rogers, Ar.; Linda Tyler of Derby, Ks. and two brothers, Arlo Tyler and wife Vivian of Blossom, Tx. And Fred Tyler and husband Bud Forsythe of Seattle WA. As well as many nieces, nephews and extended family members.
Joyce was preceded in death by her husband Bill; her parents; two brothers and sister in laws, Bill & Kay Tyler of Santa Fe, NM & Doyle & Judy Tyler of Cherryvale, KS. And one daughter, Kendra Thornton of Wichita, KS.
Joyce was never one to complain, any time you asked her answer was always, “I’m fine.” She will be forever in our hearts and dearly missed forever.
Funeral Services will be held at Wickham Family Funeral Home, 216 East 4th, Cherryvale, Ks. on Saturday June 23, 2018 at 11:00 am with Pastor Jacob Taylor officiating. Following the service there will be a dinner provided by the family and served at the Cherryvale Community Center. Burial Service will be in Wichita, Ks. at Old Mission Cemetery, 3424 E. 21st St No.; Wichita, Ks. on Saturday, June 30th, 2018 at 11:00 am with Pastor Dean Van Stoh officiating.
