Josephine Butin Vandever

February 15, 1918 — January 22, 2007

Josephine Butin Vandever, 88, formerly of Little Rock, Arkansas died Monday, January 22, 2007 at Forest Hills Nursing Center in Broken Arrow, Oklahoma. She was born on February 15, 1918 in Fredonia, Kansas to Charles E. and Eva Hunt Butin. She graduated from Fredonia High School and from junior college in Kansas City, Missouri. During World War II, she assisted the national effort by working in the government rations office. On January 23, 1945 she married Ross B. Vandever. She went on to be a homemaker and a gifted seamstress. Mr. Vandever preceded her in death, as did her sister, Dorothy Berryman and her brother, Charles Butin. Mrs. Vandever was a member of Pulaski Heights United Methodist Church in Little Rock. Survivors include four children: daughter, Linda J. Maxwell and her husband John of Broken Arrow, two sons, William R. Vandever and his wife Vicki of Ward, Arkansas, James S. Vandever of Little Rock and daughter Laura L. Bingham and her husband Dana of Denton, Texas; five grandchildren, Carolyn Mathieson of Broken Arrow, William Ross Vandever II of Fayetteville, Arkansas, Allison Vandever of North Little Rock, Ryan Bingham and Alissa Bingham, both of Denton; one great grandson, A.J. Mathieson of Broken Arrow. A memorial service will be at 9:00 a.m. Saturday January 27, 2007 at Timmons Funeral Home in Fredonia, Kansas with Rev. Patty Sherman of the First United Methodist Church officiating. Inurnment will be in the Fredonia City Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that a memorial contribution be made to the Arkansas Children's Hospital Foundation, P.O. Box 2222, Little Rock, AR 72203.
