Joseph "Joe" Dean Tatum Sr., born on September 27, 1946, in New Orleans, Louisiana, passed away on Thursday, January 2, 2025, in rural Fredonia, Kansas.
He was a dedicated individual, known for his work in the oilfield and truck driving, a career he retired from due to ill health.
Joe was united in marriage to Donna Marie House in 1981 in New Iberia, Louisiana and she survives at the home.
Joe was a veteran of the United States Army, having served one tour in Vietnam. His life was marked by his time at New Iberia High School, from which he graduated in 1966. Beyond his professional and military endeavors, Joe enjoyed life’s simple pleasures, which included indulging in an occasional drink and smoke, listening to classic country music, particularly the tunes of Hank Williams, and the nostalgic sound of old-time rock n roll.
Left to cherish his memory is his beloved wife, Donna, who shared their home together. Joe is also survived by his sons, Joe (April) Tatum Jr. of Ruston, Louisiana, Joh David Tatum of St. Martinville, Louisiana, Kary (Holly) Tatum of Roper, Kansas, and Kelly Tatum of Roper, Kansas. His family extends to twelve grandchildren and four great grandchildren,
Joe was preceded in death by his parents, Joseph Root Tatum and Merle (Herring) Tatum.
Joe bequeathed his body to the University of Kansas School of Medicine Willed Body Program. Memorial services will be held at a later date. Services are under the personal care and guidance of Wickham Family Funeral Home & Cremation Service.
