John Lafayette Deal

John Lafayette Deal, 87, a resident of Fredonia, formerly of Belle Plaine, Kansas, died Friday, June 16, 2006, at Fredonia Regional Hospital. He was born April 21, 1919, in Fredonia, the son of Charles Daniel and Lula (Ross) Deal. He retired in 1984 from Boeing Aircraft Company after 32 years. On May 24, 1953, in Arkansas, he married Mary Jane Rothgeb. She preceded him in death September 8, 1991. On Decemer 23, 1993 in Fredonia, he married Violet McMurray. She preceded him in death January 25, 2006. He was a member of the First Christian Church in Fredonia; the Albert Pike Masonic Lodge in Wichita; and the IAM Union. He enjoyed fishing, playing dominoes and bluegrass music. His survivors include: Two sons: Larry Deal of Claremore, OK Ronald Deal of Belle Plaine, OK Two daughters: Judy Fortune of Blue Springs, MO Karen Deal of Winfield, KS One foster child: Mary Herridge of Wichita, KS Three sisters: Lois Ferguson of Fredonia, KS Zana Meadows of Fredonia, KS Ruth Scarth of Farnsworth, TX Ila May of Pratt, KS One brother: Clyde Deal of Hiawatha, IA Five grandchildren and three great grandchildren. He was also preceded in death by one brother, Roy Deal. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 A.M. on Tuesday, June 20, 2006, at the First Christian Church with Rev. Steve Brodbeck officiating. Burial will be in the Jackson Cemetery near New Albany, Kansas. The family will receive friends at Timmons Funeral Home on Monday, 5:00 P.M.-7:00 P.M. A memorial has been established in his name with the First Christian Church and may be sent to the funeral home.
