Jimmy C. Shinn, 84, passed away Monday, November 11, 2019 at Coffey County Hospital in Burlington, Kansas.
Jimmy was born November 18, 1934 to Jack S. Shinn and Rena G. (Ritter) Shinn in New Albany Kansas, one of 5 brothers. He graduated from Fredonia High School in 1952, lettering in football and track.
Out of high school, Jimmy went to work for Boeing Aircraft Company in Wichita, Kansas, as an A-1 tool and jig builder. Jimmy was so efficient at tool and jig building that Boeing sent him to San Diego, California to teach for three months. He also played shortstop on Boeing’s champion softball team.
In 1955, Jimmy married Djwanna Leatherbury from Severy, Kansas, they were later divorced.
Jimmy was the father of three sons, Jimmy Sterling Shinn and wife Pam, Jimmy Carl Shinn Jr. and wife Stephanie and Carl Deon Shinn.
Jimmy left Boeing after a few years as an A-1 tool and jig builder and was self- employed. Among his vocations were, cattle, bulldozing, bailing hay and logging.
In Jimmy’s youth he was an avid hunter and was proud of “King”, his coon dog and was especially proud of his prize bird dog, “Buddy,” who was out of two world champions, Gunsmoke and Arkansas Ranger.
In addition to his parents, brothers; Jackie, Willard and Carson, preceded him in death.
Survivors include brother, Rodger Shinn of Fredonia, Kansas and his three sons, Jimmy Sterling, Jimmy Carl and Carl Deon.
Celebration of Life Services will be 2:00 P.M., Saturday, November 23, 2019 at Wickham Family Funeral Home at 510 N. 7th Fredonia, Kansas. Gene Benefiel will be officiating and the eulogy will be given by Rodger Shinn.
