Jimmie Lee Houchin Sr.
February 14, 1942 - December 8,2021
Jimmie Lee Houchin Sr. (Chicken Eye) age 79, of East Rose Street, Carlsbad, New Mexico passed away Wednesday December 8th, 2021, at Carlsbad Medical Center.
Jimmie was born on February 14, 1942, in Matfield Green, Kansas to Wilbur and Juanita Ferguson Houchin.
Jimmie was a loving, nurturing and devoted family man. Nothing pleased him more than being with family. For several years he helped coach his daughter Donnas softball team, which he was loved by all the girls that played for him. He enjoyed teaching his children about cars and what you needed to do if you had problems, like a flat tire, and how to check your oil. He always had a way of making you feel like you were special. When he and Caterina got married, he gained another daughter whom he loved dearly and always treated her like she was his. That’s the type of man he was a very kind and caring man. Along with the never-ending smile, he had a rare humbleness about him that was easily recognized by all. He enjoyed watching his grandchildren participate in a variety of activities and was always there to cheer them on. He loved watching football, and especially his favorite team the Kansas City Chiefs. Jimmie was a hard-working man. He could fix just about anything and loved tinkering in his shop. As a young man, he loved fast cars and had the sheriff on his tail on many occasions.
Jimmie also loved his country and served in the United States Army Reserve from December 1961 to July 1967.
Jimmie worked in the Potash mine for 25 years, which is where he got his nickname Chicken Eye, until it shut down in 1997, he then transitioned to a CDL truck driver for the oil field until his retirement.
Jimmie is preceded in death by his father, Wilbur and mother Juanita; six siblings, Alonzo, Harvey, Darrell Dean, Ray, Dale, and Glenn Edgar.
Jimmie is survived by his wife Caterina Houchin of Carlsbad, NM; 3 children: Jimmie Houchin and wife Terri of Whitewright, Tx; Donna Cooper and husband Steve of Carlsbad, NM and Monica Stone and husband Anthony of Rio Rancho, NM; 14 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren. 4 siblings: Alice Eshbaugh, William Houchin and wife Tessie, Jerry Houchin and wife Sheila, Larry Houchin, and 2 sisters-in-law JoAnn Houchin and Zandie Houchin.
