Jessie L. Lickteig

Jessie L. Lickteig, 96, longtime resident of Cherryvale, Kansas passed away early Wednesday morning, February 16, 2022, at Cherryvale Care Center in Cherryvale.
Jessie Lucille Lickteig was born November 3, 1925, in Cherryvale, Kansas the daughter of Jesse Nicholson and Nora (Blinn) Nicholson. She grew up in Cherryvale and graduated from Cherryvale High School in 1943.

On April 25, 1949, at the St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church rectory she was united in marriage to James Benedict Lickteig, and he preceded her in death December 8, 1981.

Jessie worked at Lee’s Manufacturing and Gragg Cabinet Company in her earlier years. She was a librarian for many years for the Cherryvale City Public Library.

She enjoyed reading, cooking, baking, crafts, Cherryvale history and mowing the lawn.

Jessie was a member of the St. Francis Xavier Catholic Altar Society and Bingo group. She was also a member of the Cherryvale Civic Club and helped with the Cherryvale Food Bank.

Survivors include her children, Rita Mendoza, Jimmy Lickteig and his wife Frances, Jo Ann Lopez, all of Cherryvale, Kansas, 10 grandchildren and 13 great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, infant sister, Esther Nicholson, sister, Bertha Mallow and son in law, Mario Lopez.

The Rosary will be recited at 6:00 P.M., Sunday, February 20, 2022, at St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church in Cherryvale.

Mass of Christian Burial will take place at 10:00 A.M., Monday February 21, 2022, at St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church.

Interment will take place at St. Francis Xavier Catholic Cemetery immediately following the mass.
