Jessie Atta Carlson

Jessie Atta Carlson, 88, a resident of Buffalo, Kansas, died Tuesday, March 11, 2008 at the Neosho Memorial Regional Medical Center in Chanute. She was born August 9, 1919 in Roper, Kansas, the daughter of Henry and Jessie (Bradford) Cook. She was a 1936 graduate of Benedict High School. On March 9, 1941 in Chanute, Kansas, she married Parie M. Carlson. He preceded her in death September 11, 1996. Atta was proud to be a farmer"s wife and worked along side Parie. She also served as a lunchroom supervisor and cook at Midway School for 20 years. She was a lifetime member of the Buffalo United Methodist Church, where she served as a board member, Sunday school superintendent and teacher and was a member of the United Methodist Women. Throughout the years she served as a 4-H leader, Sunny Stone Unit officer and member of the Buffalo Senior Citizens. Her Survivors include: Three daughters and sons-in-law: Linda and Bill DeWitt of Independence, MO Loretta and Orrin Odell of Fredonia, KS Cheryl and David Wescott of Buffalo, KS Seven grandchildren: Diana DeWitt, Denise DeWitt-Talley, Douglas DeWitt, Rodney Wescott, Kristi Wescott, Paul Odell, Laura Odell-Williams One step-granddaughter: Kari Odell Six great grandchildren: Daniel DeWitt, Jamie DeWitt, Cameron Talley, Kate Odell, Leah Wescott, Kyle Wescott She was preceded in death by her parents; three sisters, Nina Jacobsen, Lena Puckett and Ruby Payne; one brother, Christopher "Buck" Cook; and three infant grandchildren. Funeral services will be held at 1:00 P.M. on Saturday, March 15, 2008 at the Buffalo United Methodist Church with Pastors Donald and Cheryl Martin officiating. Burial will be in the Buffalo Cemetery. Friends may call at Timmons Funeral Home on Friday, 2:00 P.M.-6:00 P.M. Memorials have been established in her name with an Education Fund for Jamie DeWitt or the Buffalo United Methodist Church and may be sent to the funeral home.
