Jeanette Marie Edwards

Jeanette Marie Edwards, 64, a resident of Fredonia, Kansas died Tuesday, April 16, 2013 at the Kansas Heart Hospital in Wichita, Kansas. She was born March 27, 1949 in Hutchinson, Kansas, the daughter of Lawrence and Virginia (Albright) Wilbert. Jeanette was a 1967 graduate of Pittsburg Colgan High School. She received her bachelor"s degree in education in 1972 and her master"s degree in education in 1981 from Pittsburg State University. On August 18, 1973 in Pittsburg, Jeanette was united in marriage to Carl Edwards. They spent 39 wonderful years together. Carl survives at their home. Throughout the years, Jeanette taught school in the Tribune, Kansas City Piper and Fredonia school districts. Most recently, she was a substitute teacher in Fredonia. Jeanette was a faithful member of the Sacred Heart Church in Fredonia and the 1910 Club. For several years, she helped deliver Meals-On-Wheels. She enjoyed playing bridge several times a month, reading, playing the piano, and cooking and baking for her family. She loved to collect antique glassware to display in her home. In 2012, she and Carl traveled to Paris, a lifelong dream come true. In addition to her husband, Carl, she is survived by: One daughter: Julie and John Barta of Topeka, KS Two sons: Michael Edwards of Denver, CO Tim Edwards of Lawrence, KS Her mother: Virginia Wilbert of Pittsburg, KS One sister: Margie Dellasega of Greenville, NC One brother: Kenneth Wilbert of Rock Springs, WY Three grandchildren: Shannon, Matthew and Kendall Barta of Topeka, KS Jeanette was preceded in death by her father, Lawrence Wilbert and her in-laws, Carl and Betty Edwards. The family will receive friends on Sunday evening 5:00 P.M.-6:00 P.M. at the Sacred Heart Church in Fredonia followed by a rosary at 6:00 P.M . Funeral mass will be said at 10:30 A.M. on Tuesday, April 23, 2013 at the Sacred Heart Church. A memorial has been established in Jeanette"s name with the Fredonia Regional Healthcare Foundation and contributions can be sent to or left at Timmons Funeral Home.
