Janet K. Porter, 71 of Fredonia, Kansas passed away Sunday, October 23, 2022, at Fredonia Regional Hospital. Janet was born October 5, 1951, in Neodesha, Kansas to Robert and Ruth (Wiley) Oliver. She graduated from Neodesha High School in 1969.
Janet married Jim Bauman and to this union, two children, Kirk Bauman of Neodesha, Kansas and Corey Bauman of Neodesha, Kansas were born. The couple later divorced.
Janet married Earl Porter on November 23, 1991, in Fredonia, Kansas. They had a son, Evan Porter born May 9, 1993, of Fredonia, Kansas. Earl survives at the home.
Janet, in her early married life, was very active in the local State Farm Bureau, winning several awards and titles. Janet was an instrumental part of the Porter Crop Insurance Business that she and Earl ran from their home on the farm. Being a perfectionist, she made certain that things were run properly. She kept the books on their family’s cattle and farm operation that was run together with son, Evan. Janet was a member of the Wilson County Rural Fire Department, enjoyed reading, going to movies, and watching TV. Janet especially enjoyed the occasional trip to Mexico with other farmer friends. Despite her busy life, Janet kept a daily journal for thirty years. More than anything else, Janet loved her family. She was very proud of the young man her son, Evan was becoming and loved watching him run the farm and cattle business.
Janet is survived by husband, Earl, son, Kirk (Candi), daughter, Corey, and son Evan; sister, Polly (Mark) Boyd of Delaware; niece, Laura (Troy) Gunden and two great nephews of Maryland; granddaughter, Dakota Hamby; and two young men who held a special place in her heart, who had grown up and worked with her on the farming operation, Zach Traylor and Ty Joyce.
