JAMES O. ALSPAUGHJames O. Alspaugh, 72, of rural Independence, Kansas passed away Tuesday at his home.James O. Alspaugh was born September 2, 1942 in Greeley, Iowa the son of James Alspaugh and Doris Irene (Watts) Alspaugh. He attended Mound Valley schools and graduated from Mound Valley High School in 1961.He worked for Katy Railroad and Union Pacific Rail Road for 30 plus years and retired in 2003.James was a country boy and was happy to live in the country. His hobbies were his tractors, trains and chickens. He also loved woodworking and tinkering with anything he could.He was a member of the Cherry Valley Model Railroad Club and local antique tractor club.Survivors include daughters, Sandra Alspaugh of Cherryvale, Julie Dunham and her husband Chad of Independence; siblings, Karen Merrick of Mound Valley, Arlie Alspaugh of Miami, Oklahoma, David Singletary, Donna King, Louise McGannon, Jeannie Singletary and Delores Catlett, 5 grandchildren with one great granddaughter on the way.He was preceded in death by his father and step mother Leta Alspaugh, mother, brother, Daniel Alspaugh and half-brother Phillip Singletary.Celebration of Life Funeral Services will be held 10:30 A.M., Saturday, August 15, 2015 at Wickham Family Funeral Home, 216 East 4th Street, Cherryvale, Kansas 67335. The casket will be closed. Friends may sign the register book from 12 noon until 8:00 P.M. Friday with the family receiving friends from 6:00 P.M. until 7:30 P.M. at the funeral home. Interment will be held in Mound Valley Cemetery.Memorial remembrances are suggested to the Cherry Valley Model Railroad Club and they may be left or mailed to the funeral home
