James “Jim” Richard Raymond, 73, of Altoona, Kansas, passed away, Monday, December 23, 2019 at Wesley Medical Center in Wichita, Kansas.
Jim was born on June 9, 1946 in Atchison, Kansas, the son of James and Margaret (Hall) Holmes. Jim’s father passed away when he was 1 ½. His mother later married Walter Raymond who helped raise him.
He attended Altoona schools, earned his GED, attended Neosho Community College and Victory Bible Institute, Tulsa, Oklahoma. Jim served in the Navy for 4 ½ years.
On September 14, 1968 he was united in marriage to Stacy Harshman and she survives at the home.
Jim was a minister until his retirement in August. He had been a missionary to Honduras. Jim was also a carpenter, welder and construction worker.
Jim was a member of Christian Biker’s Association and the Altoona City Council. He and his wife were the 1976 King and Queen of Altoona Days Bicentennial.
Jim enjoyed woodworking, mowing, goats, animals, riding motorcycles, his mule (Gracie), KU basketball and the Chiefs. He loved spending time with his grandchildren.
Survivors include his wife, Stacy, children Jamie (Christine) Raymond of Kansas City, Kansas, Shawn (Bethany) Raymond of Neodesha, Kansas, Patricia (William) Sullivan of Pittsburg, Kansas and Tim (Tonia) Raymond of Altoona, Kansas. Fifteen grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his father, James Holmes, parents, Walter and Margaret Raymond and daughter, Kelly Sue Raymond.
Cremation has been requested with memorial services being held 1:00 P.M., Saturday, January 4, 2020 at Verdigris Valley Christian Fellowship, 215 East 13th, Altoona, Kansas 66710.
Memorial donations are suggested the Verdigris Valley Christian Fellowship and they may be left or sent to Wickham Family Funeral Home, 510 N. 7th Fredonia, Kansas 66736.
