James "Jim" Roy Atwell, 68, died suddenly at his home in rural Fredonia on Wednesday, April 12th, 2017.
Jim was born on January 13th, 1949 in Kansas City, Missouri. Three months later, he was brought home by his parents Cecil H. Atwell and Wilma B. (Fitzmorris) Atwell and raised on their farm in Fredonia. He graduated in the class of 1968 from Fredonia High School.
A passion for cars was ignited young for Jim. He enjoyed doing body work, tinkering under the hood, going to car shows, reading about cars, and even racing.
On May 28th, 1971, he married Jeanette Buchanan. They had two children, Jeanell and Jamie who were also brought up in Fredonia.
Most of his working years were spent at Wells Cabinet Shop in Fredonia. He also held jobs at several grocery stores, Cobalt boats ,Ambrose, and even raised some cattle on the farm. In recent years, he had retired and could be found doing odd jobs around the area, spending time with his partner Susan Blouch, or visiting his children and grandchildren.
Lately, he attended New Albany Methodist Church and volunteered there with his partner Susan Blouch. He and Susan began their relationship on July 6, 2015. It continued until his death.
Survivors include his daughter, Jeanell Lieurance of Olathe, Kansas, son, Jamie Atwell of Spring Hill, Kansas, partner, Susan Blouch of the home, granddaughters, Malia, Brindle, and Cecily Lieurance of Olathe, Kansas, and ex-wife, Jeanette Bowers of Elk City, Kansas.
Memorial services will be held at Wickham Family Funeral Home at 10:30 A.M. on Saturday, April 15th, 2017. His remains will be transported to the Fredonia City Cemetery where a graveside service will be held.
