September 12, 1936 — December 2, 2022

James “Jim” David Huneycutt age 86 of Cherryvale, Kansas passed away on Friday, December 2, 2022 in Nixa, Missouri. He was born September 12, 1936 in rural Cherryvale, Kansas. The son of Glen W. Huneycutt and Vera (Plumley) Huneycutt. He attended Brooks Rural School for elementary education and then was a 1954 graduate of Cherryvale High School.

James married LaVerna Lee Hicks on July 4, 1956, at Hazeldell Southern Baptist Church. They celebrated their 66th wedding anniversary in 2022.

Jim’s gift for mechanics and large equipment led him to start his own soil conservation operation from his home in rural Cherryvale. Jim & LaVerna formed Huneycutt Construction that eventually expanded to a wide range of heavy earth-moving excavation work for both farm and business. The couple had a successful business for over 40 years, retiring in 2006. The couple also maintained a farming operation in rural Cherryvale and Morehead. After retirement Jim enjoyed restoring antique Farmall tractors and participating in local farm shows and parades.

Jim is survived by his wife, LaVerna of Nixa, Missouri; his daughter, Carol Huneycutt Ehlers and son-in-law Brent Ehlers of Storm Lake, Iowa; daughter Teresa Paul and son-in-law Randy Paul of Mt. Vernon, Missouri; four grandchildren, Austin James Ehlers and his wife Taylor of Storm Lake, IA; Joshua Alstatt and his wife Allyson of Kansas City, MO; Anna Marie Ehlers of Columbus, Ohio and Alex Paul of Mt. Vernon, Missouri; and one great-grandchild, Magnolia LaVerna-Lea Ehlers, of Storm Lake, Iowa.
