Martha Isabelle Cook, 86, a lifelong resident of New Albany, Kansas, died Saturday, January 7, 2006 at Fredonia Regional Hospital. She was born August 3, 1919 in New Albany, the daughter of Charles E. and Chloe (Jackson) Hall. She was a graduate of Fredonia High School. She had been employed as the postmaster for the New Albany Post Office for 32 years, retiring on May 31, 2005. On December 26, 1941, she married Austin A. Cook. He preceded her in death July 5, 1997. She was member of the New Albany United Methodist Church where she had served as church treasurer. She was also a member of the Red Hat Society, United Methodist Women, Wilson County Historical Society, Retired Federal Employees, and served on the board of the Fredonia Senior Citizens. Her Survivors include two daughters, Martha Rorick of Independence, KS, Carol Robertson of Topeka, KS; three sons, Stan Cook of Kansas City, MO, Clay Cook of New Albany, KS, Niles Cook of Topeka, KS; two sisters, Mary Olive Knooz of Shawno, WI, Anna Ruth McGinnes of Topeka, KS; one brother, Charles Tomas Hall of Olathe, KS; 9 Grandchildren and 14 Great Grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; one brother, William Hall and one sister, Maude Hall. Funeral services will be held at 1:00P.M. on Thursday, January 12, 2006 at the Timmons Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will be in the Maple Grove Cemetery near Roper, Kansas. Friends may call at the funeral home on Wednesday, 2:00 P.M.-7:00 P.M. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Wednesday, 6:00 P.M.-7:00 P.M. Memorials have been established in her name with the KSU Center for Basic Cancer Research and the New Albany United Methodist Church and may be sent to the funeral home.
