Howard Rex Koch, 74, a longtime resident of Fredonia, Kansas, died Thursday, June 26, 2014 at Fredonia Regional Hospital. He was born June 3, 1940 in Fredonia, the son of Byron R. and Leona (Spoon) Koch. Howard was a graduate of Fredonia High School and served in the Kansas National Guard. He was retired from the Wilson County Courthouse maintenance department. Howard spent 40 years doing what he loved best, owning and operating Koch"s Custom Shop, where he was a master at automobile paint and bodywork. He enjoyed 20 years of companionship with the love of his life, Barbara Purdy, until her death in 2004. His parents and one sister, Connie Loomis, also preceded him in death. Howard was a member of the First Assembly of God Church in Fredonia and the Tri-Valley Street Rod Association. His survivors include: His son and companion: David Koch and Carri Landry of Fredonia, KS One sister: Virginia Churchill of Sapulpa, OK Grandchildren: Hayden T. Koch, Stevi Wilson and Keaton Landry all of Fredonia, KS Several nieces and nephews Funeral services will be at 11:00 A.M. on Tuesday, July 1, 2014 at the First Assembly of God Church with Pastor Ray Pile officiating. Burial will be in the Fredonia City Cemetery. Friends may call at Timmons Funeral Home on Monday, Noon to 7:00 P.M. with the family receiving friends 4:00 P.M.-7:00 P.M. A memorial has been established in Howard"s name with the Tri Valley Street Rod Association and contributions can be sent to or left at the funeral home.
