Howard Leroy Shively, 67, a longtime resident of Benedict, Kansas, died Sunday, September 17, 2006, at Via Christi St. Francis Medical Center in Wichita, Kansas. He was born February 15, 1939 in Fredonia, Kansas, the son of Roy Howard and Ailene (Hull) Shively. He was a 1957 graduate of Benedict High School. Following high school, he served as a Staff Sergeant in the United States Air Force 1957-1962. He was later employed for 31 years at Archer Daniels Midland Company in Fredonia as a production supervisor, retiring in 2000. On August 25, 1960 in Okmulgee, Oklahoma, he married Lola Guiou. She survives at their home. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Fredonia and the Blue Lodge #403 A.F. & A.M. in Benedict. He was an active part of the Wilson County Rural Fire Department for 37 years; served as Mayor of Benedict, as well as on the Benedict Town Council; and was a volunteer operator for Rural Water District #5. Survivors, in addition to his wife, Lola, include: Three Sons Howard Shively Jr. of Rawson, OH Eric Shively of Benedict, KS Aaron Shively of New Strawn, KS One Sister Karen Briggs of Coyville, KS Four grandchildren Cremation has taken place and a memorial service will be held at 10:30 A.M. on Thursday, September 21, 2006, at the Timmons Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Charlotte Coates of the First United Methodist Church officiating. The family has designated memorial donations be made to the American Cancer Society and may be sent to the funeral home.
