Herman Ray "Vic" Victor, 77, a resident of Chanute, Kansas, formerly of Fredonia, Kansas, died Friday, September 18, 2009, at Neosho Memorial Regional Medical Center in Chanute. He was born May 8, 1932 in Fredonia, the son of Carl Fred and Velma May (Powell) Victor Sr. Vic was a 1951 graduate of Fredonia High School and received a bachelor"s degree from Ottawa University. In 1950, Vic joined the Battery C 195 Field Artillery Battalion Kansas National Guard in Fredonia. In May of 1951, his battalion became federally activated and served with the 8th U.S. Army Headquarters in Seoul, Korea, during the Korean War. He was honorably discharged in 1953. He was employed by Hallmark Cards for 38 years as a large press operator and later, designing cards. He worked at the Topeka, Lawrence and Kansas City locations during his career, retiring in 1997. Vic grew up in the First Baptist Church in Fredonia. He was a lifetime member of the American Legion Post #8, the 40/8, and the V.F.W. Post #3018, in Fredonia, as well as the Disabled American Veterans Commanders Club and the Korean Veterans Association. His survivors include: One son: Phillip Victor of Lawrence, KS One brother: Carl F. Victor of Denver, CO One sister: Susie Victor of Chanute, KS Three Grandchildren Several nieces and nephews, great and great-great nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and one son, Gregory Victor. Graveside services will be held at 1:30 P.M. on Wednesday, September 23, 2009 at the Fredonia City Cemetery. Military rites will be conducted by American Legion Post #170. A memorial has been established in Vic"s name with the American Legion Post #170 in Chanute and may be sent to the funeral home.
