Helen Maxine (Morrison) Wilson, 93, passed away on Friday, February 18, 2022. A longtime resident and popular figure in Fredonia, she had relocated to Wichita four years ago to be near family.
She was born on December 11, 1928, and raised in Neodesha, Ks. She graduated from Neodesha High School in 1946. In October of that year, she eloped with her high school sweetheart, Max Wilson. In 1953, they moved to Fredonia and raised a daughter and three sons. She was a homemaker until joining the staff at the Fredonia School District. Max and Maxine contributed greatly to the schools and community and were married 64 years until his passing in 2013. She enjoyed her involvement with 1910 Club, Red Hats, Hospital Auxiliary, Pizza Hut Ladies, Squat and Gobble, Fredonia Arts Council and Friends of the Library.
She enjoyed reading, playing bridge, cross stitching, visiting friends, drinking Pepsi, watching KU and WSU basketball games, music theatre, collecting Hallmark Dickens Village houses and figures, decorating for every holiday, buying shoes, re-arranging furniture, adventures, and all things giraffes. She enjoyed attending a variety of social events as long as they weren’t in the morning. Next to time with family, her true joy was Christmas and her vast display of Dickens Christmas Village houses. She owned over 120 houses and all the matching accessories. She was very pleased when her village display was featured in a couple of magazines, the local sorority Christmas tour, and even a couple of school field trips.
Family would like to take this opportunity to give special thanks to Always Their Senior Care, Phoenix Hospice and her devoted caregivers: Pat, Anna and Emily.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Walter and Fern Morrison; her husband, Max Wilson; son, Stan Wilson and her brother, Larry Morrison.
