Harold Gene Lazzers, 69, a resident of rural Toronto, Kansas, and a longtime resident of the Eureka, Kansas area, died Wednesday, May 30, 2012 at Harry Hynes Memorial Hospice at Via Christi St. Francis in Wichita, Kansas. He was born January 29, 1943 in Eureka, Kansas, the son of Harold Eugene and Ruby Virginia (Purkeypile) Lazzers. Harold was a graduate of Eureka High School. Known for his strong work ethic, Harold was successful in a number of professions. During his teen years, he worked custom wheat harvesting. He began his sales career at Miller Brothers, later, Burk-Paulsen Clothiers in Eureka and a Prudential Insurance salesman. While living in Emporia, Kansas, he became the first manager at The Guy Shop and was a salesman for Liberty Mutual Insurance. In Osage City, Kansas, he was a salesman at Rainbow Bread Co. Harold spent time working in the oil fields, and while living in Wichita, Kansas, he owned and operated the Redwood Inn and The Pump Room. In later years, he was a salesman for Wild Bill"s Beef Jerky, and most recently he owned and operated Laz-Shax Storage near Toronto State Lake. On July 19, 1960, Harold married Myrt VanBuskirk and to this union, four children were born, Aaron, Gena, Matt, and Erica. They were later divorced. Harold was united in marriage to Barbara Mead on August 30, 1974 and to this union, one daughter, Leslye, was born. They later divorced. On December 25, 1984, Harold met Linda Simons and they began their 27 year companionship. Linda resides at their home near Toronto. Harold was a member of the Kansas Boat Racers Association (KBRA) and enjoyed racing drag boats with his brother, Bob. He was also an avid fisherman and hunter. In addition to his companion, Linda, Harold is survived by: Two sons: Aaron Lazzers of Haysville, KS Matt Lazzers of Fall River, KS Three daughters: Gena Schaefer and husband Brian of Emporia, KS Erica O"Brien and husband Michael of Lacombe, LA Leslye Bullock and husband Dan of El Dorado, KS One brother: Bob Lazzers and wife Sharon of Severy, KS Two sisters: Betty Griggs of Dodge City, KS Sandy Parker of Spring Hill, TN Thirteen grandchildren and four great grandchildren His parents, Harold Lazzers and Ruby White, and sister, Mary Cook, preceded Harold in death. Funeral services will be held at 1:00 P.M. on Monday, June 4, 2012 at the Jefferson Street Baptist Church in Eureka, Kansas, with Pastor Sam McVey of the New Life Equipping Ministries in El Dorado officiating. Burial will be in the Greenwood Cemetery. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service at the church. A memorial has been established in Harold"s name with the Jefferson Street Baptist Church and donations may be sent to Timmons Funeral Home.
