Grace Ellen Houser, 79, a longtime resident of Fredonia, Kansas, formerly of Neodesha, Kansas, died Thursday, March 3, 2011 at Kansas Heart Hospital in Wichita, Kansas. She was born June 30, 1931 in Neodesha, the daughter of Isaac Newton and Ida Mae (Lockard) Phillips. Grace was married to Lester Houser and to this union, one son, Greg, was born. They were later divorced. For several years, Grace was a dispatcher for the Wilson County Sheriff"s Department. More recently, she worked for many years in the soft-lines department of the Alco store in Fredonia. Throughout Grace"s adult life, she was a member of the Fredonia Eagle"s Auxiliary, where she held several offices and the VFW Women"s Auxiliary in Neodesha, where she was a past-president. Grace is survived by one son, Greg Houser of Fredonia one grandson, Isaac Houser of Fredonia one brother, Ed Phillips of San Diego, California several nieces and nephews Her parents; one brother, Bob Phillips; and one sister, Beatrice Irene Phillips preceded her in death. Graveside services will be held at 10:00 A.M., Tuesday, March 8, 2011 at the Neodesha City Cemetery with Rev. Gene Benefiel of the Buxton Christian Church officiating. The family will receive friends at Timmons Funeral Home on Monday evening, 5:00 P.M.-7:00 P.M.
