Georgia Etta Houghton

Georgia Etta Houghton, 89, a longtime resident of Altoona, Kansas, died Tuesday, November 24, 2009 at Golden Living Center in Fredonia, Kansas. She was born June 16, 1920 in Freedom, Oklahoma, Haskew Community, the daughter of Earl and Etta (Worley) Bishop. On October 23, 1941, in Woodward, Oklahoma, she married George A. Houghton. He preceded her in death February 2, 1994. She attended all twelve years of school at Freedom, Oklahoma. She received her licensed practical nursing training at Neosho County Junior College in Chanute. She worked for several years at St. Margaret"s Mercy Hospital in Fredonia. Georgia was a member of the Altoona United Methodist Church, Royal Neighbor Camp 394, Altoona Over 50 Center and the Neodesha VFW Auxiliary. Georgia"s survivors include: Four sons: Earl Houghton of Las Vegas, NV Jerry Houghton of Wichita, KS Dale Houghton of Altoona, KS Kenneth Houghton of Wentzville, MO One daughter: Beverly Eastridge of Altoona, KS Two brothers: Rev. Marion Bishop of Cheney, KS Bob Bishop of Wichita, KS Two sisters: May Hartzell of Wichita, KS Ruth Sullivan of Kansas City, KS 14 grandchildren; 19 great grandchildren; 3 step great-grandsons Georgia was also preceded in death by her parents; one son, Laverle George Houghton; one daughter, Etta Lavone Houghton; 3 brothers, Earnest, William and Virgil Bishop; and two sisters, Naomi Holloway and Mary Clark. Funeral services will be held at 1:30 P.M. on Saturday, November 28, 2009 at the Altoona United Methodist Church with Rev. Cheryl Martin officiating. The family will receive friends at Timmons Funeral Home on Friday, 5:00 P.M.-7:00 P.M. Memorials have been established in Georgia"s name with Altoona United Methodist Church and Asere Care Hospice and may be sent to the funeral home. Family condolences may be left on this website.
