George Thomas "Buddy" Ibbetson, a lifelong resident of rural Buffalo, Kansas, died Monday, February 2, 2009 at the Coffey County Hospital in Burlington, Kansas. He was born October 13, 1916 on the Ibbetson farm, northwest of Buffalo, the son of George Frederick and Chestine Elizabeth (Kennedy) Ibbetson. George attended West Buffalo District 28 grade school and was graduated from Buffalo High School in 1934. He was a farmer and rancher for 75 years, retiring in 2000. George baled hay for many of his neighbors and over the course of his hard work, wore out two balers. Until just a few years ago, he continued to feed his cattle and use his chainsaw to cut wood, as well as always kneading and baking his own bread. George attended the United Methodist Church in Buffalo, the New York Valley Church in Yates Center, Kansas and the Jehovah Witness Church in Chanute, Kansas. His hobbies and his lifestyle included raising Shorthorn and Black Angus cows and caring for his dogs and barn cats, as well as helping his neighbors whenever he was needed. George is survived by nieces and nephews and his best companion, an American Terrier named Popcorn. He was preceded in death by his parents, George F. and Chestine Ibbetson and his sister, Martha Weide. Graveside services will be held at 1:00 P.M. on Friday, February 6, 2009 at the Buffalo Cemetery with Rev. Cheryl Martin of the Buffalo United Methodist Church officiating. A memorial has been established in George"s name with the Humane Society and may be sent to Timmons Funeral Home. Words of condolence may be left on this website.
