George D. Wescott

George Dail Wescott, 90, a longtime resident of Fredonia, Kansas, died Wednesday, November 4, 2015 at Diversicare of Chanute. He was born February 22, 1925 in Lyon County, Kansas, the son of Orrin D. and Bessie (Milner) Wescott. George was employed by Lafarge Corporation for 30 years, retiring in 1989. On July 30, 1944 at the Christian Church Parsonage in Fredonia, he was united in marriage to Maxine Brock. She survives at their home. George was a member of the Fredonia Senior Citizens Center and a 50-year veteran of the Chanute Elk Club. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, gardening and his grandkids. George and Maxine enjoyed RV"ing with trips to Texas every winter for 20 years after they retired. In addition to his wife, Maxine, his survivors include: Four children: Lee Ann O"Brien of Springfield, MO Dail Martin (Janice) Wescott of Coyville, KS Jon Steven (Nancy) Wescott of Willard, MO Mark Randall (Toni) Wescott of Altoona, KS Nine grandchildren: Angie Poindexter, Jeanna Wescott Hood, Bill O"Brien, Mary O"Brien Dennis, Bud Wescott, Steven Wescott, Jay Wescott, Jodi Wescott and T.R. Wescott Nine great grandchildren He was preceded in death by his parents; siblings, Gladys Wagoner, Verna Mae Odell, Howard Wescott, Cleo Uden; son-in-law, William O"Brien and a great grandchild. Graveside services will be at 10:30 A.M. on Tuesday, November 10, 2015 at the Fredonia City Cemetery with Pastor Claude Shue and Carl Thornton officiating. The family will receive friends on Monday evening, 5:00 P.M.-7:00 P.M. at the funeral home. A memorial has been established in George"s name with the Fredonia Senior Center and contributions can be sent to or left at the funeral home.
