Georgann Smith

GeorgAnn Smith, 83, of Cherryvale, Kansas passed away Wednesday, September 14, 2022, at Cherryvale Health and Rehab in Cherryvale, Kansas.

GeorgAnn was born October 15, 1938, in Independence, Kansas the daughter of Paul O’Brien and Lois Matilda (Johnson) O’Brien. She attended Altamont schools and graduated from Altamont High School in 1957.

On February 28, 1957, in Miami, Oklahoma she was united in marriage to Charles F. Smith, and he survives at the home.

She worked at Amerines Greenhouse in Independence, Kansas. She had such a green thumb with the plants and flowers they made her the “plant manager.” She later worked and retired from DANA manufacturing in Independence.

GeorgAnn loved flowers, gardening, casinos, and her family. She was a wonderful wife, mother, and grandmother. Along with her husband she played music with Kansas Old Time Fiddlers, Pickers, and Singers. She was also played with the 6-member band Back Country Rejects with her husband. They would play at fundraisers and nursing homes for the entertainment.

She was member of the Sycamore United Methodist Church and Sycamore Ladies Aid also with the church.

Survivors include her husband Charles of the home, children, Les Smith (Holly) of Clinton, Missouri, Matilda Wilson (Robert) of Bartlesville, Oklahoma, Victor Smith (Denel) of Delaware, Oklahoma, 8 grandchildren, Ben, Brandon, Kris, Tim, Tiffany, Lacey, Gary, Dustin, 6 great grandchildren, Kalista, Zack, Zella, Jaxsen, Haylie, Cole, siblings, Jimmy Dale O’Brien of Iola, Kansas, Larry O’Brien of Altamont, Kansas and Sharolyn Demott of Coffeyville, Kansas.

She was preceded in death by her parents and siblings, Eddie O’Brien, Jackie O’Brien, Pat O’Brien, and Leotis May (Sisco) Freeman.

Celebration of Life Funeral Services will be held 10:30 A.M., Monday, September 19, 2022, at Wickham Family Funeral Home, 216 East 4th, Cherryvale, Kansas 67335.

The family will receive friends from 2:00 P.M. until 4:00 P.M., Sunday, September 18, 2022, at the funeral home.

Memorial remembrances are suggested to the Sycamore Church or to FORPAZ and they may be left or mailed to the funeral home.
