Gene Fiscus

Richard Eugene "Gene" Fiscus, 76, a lifelong resident of Fredonia, Kansas, died Friday, December 15, 2006, at his home in Fredonia. He was born April 10, 1930 in Fredonia, the son of Edgar Cecil and Ethel Mae (Durham) Fiscus. He served in the United States Army August 13, 1948 to his retirement on September 30, 1978, attaining the rank of Army Sergeant Major. During his military career, he received the Bronze Star (1st Oak Leaf Cluster), National Defense Service Medal (1st OCC), Army Occupational Medal (Germany), Vietnam Service Medal, Vietnam Campaign Medal, Vietnam Cross of Gallantry with Palm and Good Conduct Medal (10th Award). He was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars, American Legion and the Fredonia Country Club. On May 25, 1952, in Fredonia, he was married to Lore Puhler. They were later divorced. His survivors include: Three sons and daughters-in-law: Richard W. and Paula L. Fiscus of Peculiar, MO Darrell E. and Pamela T. Fiscus of Townsend, DE William D. and Tammy S. Fiscus of Chanute, KS One brother: William T. Durham of Fredonia, KS Three sisters: Doris A. Swank of Washington State Mary L. Sales of Kansas City, KS Betty I. Hime of Idabell, OK Ten grandchildren and One great grandchild He was preceded in death by his parents; three brothers, Wilford Pritchett, George Allen Fiscus and Donald Lee Fiscus; one son, Robert Allen Fiscus; and one grandson, Keith Emerson Fiscus. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 A.M. on Wednesday, December 20, 2006, at Timmons Funeral Home Chapel with Michael Myers officiating. Burial will be held in the Fredonia City Cemetery with military rites by Fort Riley Military Base personnel. Friends may call at Timmons Funeral Home on Tuesday, 2:00-7:00 P.M. with the family receiving friends at the funeral home, 6:00-7:00 P.M. A memorial has been established with the Fredonia Avenue of Flags and may be sent to the funeral home.
