FRANK M. HEYFrank M. Hey, age 71, a resident of Independence, Kansas passed away Saturday August 31, 2013 at his home with his family at his side." He was born September 22, 1941 in Tyro, Kansas the son of Frank and Dorothy Hey.Celebration of Life Memorial Services will be held at 2:00 P.M. Saturday, September 7, 2013 at the First United Methodist Church in Independence with Don Newman, Past Grand Master of Kansas and Reverend Dee Williamston, officiating." Private family interment will take place at a later date.As a young child Frank lived in Iowa and Arizona before moving back to Kansas." He married his High School sweetheart, Karen McAlister and they made their home in Independence.Along with his business partner, Gene Garrison, they formed the Garrison and Hey Service Station on Penn Avenue in Independence." They were in business close to Fifty years. It was one of the last full service stations in the area." After his retirement he enjoyed his time working at Sayers Ace Hardware in Independence.Frank was an active member of Carson Masonic Lodge #132 of Elk City, Kansas where he held a perpetual life membership." He is a Past Master of the Lodge." He also served as District Deputy, Grand Master, Grand Lecturer and had a Unlimited Proficiency Card." He enjoyed helping many a new mason learn their proficiency." He also was outstanding Mason of the Year for the State of Kansas." He also loved his membership of the Mirza Shrine of Pittsburg where he was a Hospital Dad.Frank was a loving and devoted husband, father, grandfather and friend to those fortunate enough to know him.Survivors include his wife of the home, one daughter, Joyce Marcum and her husband Bob and their two children Jordan Watson and Hunter Marcum of Great Bend, Kansas, one son, Craig Hey and his wife Candra and their three children, Hunter Allison, Piper and Fisher Hey of Cherryvale, Kansas." Frank is also survived by one brother, Merle Hey of Moline, Kansas and five sisters, Ethel Simpson of Arkansas City, Kansas, Pearl Williams, Wanda Hey, Linda High all of Moline, Kansas and Lena Ovelett of Longton, Kansas.He was preceded in death by his parents, a brother William Hey and a sister Beatrice Harrison.In lieu of flowers, memorial remembrances are suggested to the Carson Lodge of Elk City, Kansas, Shriners Children Hospital or the First United Methodist Church."
