Francis Thomas Berthot, 90, of Neodesha, Kansas, formerly of Chanute, Kansas, was born on April 8, 1934, to Harry and Agnes (Gaughan) Berthot. He peacefully left this world on March 31, 2025, in Wilson County Medical Center, his spirit continuing to soar among the angels. Francis was a proud graduate of Chanute High School, class of 1952, laying the groundwork for a life devoted to service and community.
Francis was united in marriage to Betty Williamson on December 26, 1968, in Guymon. Oklahoma, she preceded him in death in January of 2006.
Francis made his life about serving his country in the United States Army, displaying immense courage and dedication. His commitment to protecting the freedoms we cherish defined much of his identity. He was a Sergeant 1st Class E7 and was in Army Intelligence. Throughout his twenty years of service, including his time in Vietnam, he received eight citations (awards).
Beyond his military service, Francis embraced life with a joyful heart. He found fulfillment in nature, often enjoying the serene pastimes of fishing and hunting. His love for the great outdoors was matched only by his passion for watching sports, where he could cheer on his favorite teams with unbridled enthusiasm.
Francis’s legacy is lovingly carried on by his siblings, Pat Johnston of Hartshorne, OK, and Bill Berthot of Bull Shoals, Arkansas. Their hearts hold cherished memories of brotherhood, laughter, and love that transcends the boundaries of this earthly realm.
He is preceded in death by cherished family members, including his beloved wife, Betty, and his parents. Also awaiting him in eternal rest are his siblings Ralph Berthot, Rosemary Berthot, Richie Berthot, Gerald Berthot, and sister-in-law Sherry Berthot.
Cremation has been requested. The family is planning a Celebration of Life Memorial Service in August.
Services are under the personal care of Wickham Family Funeral Home, 500 North Forest Ave. Chanute, Kansas.
