Forrest D. Cranor, 86, a longtime resident of Altoona, Kansas, died Sunday, May 6, 2007, at his residence in Altoona. He was born May 19, 1920 in Buffville, Kansas, the son of George W. and Emma I. (Kuntz) Cranor. He was a sergeant in the Army Air Corps 527th Fighter Squadron during World War II, receiving one bronze star with oakleaf cluster. On January 11, 1941 in Fall River, Kansas, he married Nellie Mae Foulke. She preceded him in death January 24, 2004. He was a member of the Altoona Christian Church, where he served as a Sunday School teacher and superintendent. He was a member of the Buffville Grange, the Altoona Cemetery Association and helped with the Avenue of Flags, and was very involved with the volunteer fire department and other community activities. His survivors include: One son: David Edward Cranor of Georgetown, TX Two daughters: Shyrell Lee Smith of Pittsburg, KS Pamela Sue Stanley of Newtown, PA One brother: Elmer L. Cranor of Roswell, GA 11 Grandchildren; 18 Great Grandchildren; 1 niece and 2 nephews He was preceded in death by his parents and one sister, Helen.. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 P.M. on Friday, May 11, 2007, at Altoona Christian Church. Burial will be in the Altoona Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the Altoona Christian Church on Friday, 11:00 A.M.-1:30 P.M. A memorial has been established in his name with the Harry Hynes Memorial Hospice and may be sent to the funeral home.
