Florence A. "Tommy" Carter, 87, a lifelong resident of the Neodesha, Kansas area, died early morning, Tuesday, July 06, 2010 at the Wilson County Hospital Reece Medical Center in Neodesha. She was born July 29, 1922 in Fredonia, the daughter of Perry and Agnes (Bockman) Lowers. Through the years, she worked at various jobs, including the Army Ammunition Plant and Aerosol, as well as being a wonderful homemaker. Florence was married to Ralph Cook and together they had four children, Lonnie, Shirley, Elsie and Colleen. They later divorced. Florence then married Leon Hight and he preceded her in death. On December 11, 1982 in Neodesha, she married Ralph Carter, and he also preceded her in death. Florence was a member of the Royal Neighbors, Rebekkahs Lodge and enjoyed playing bingo. Survivors include: Two children: Lonnie Cook of Neodesha, KS Shirley Horn of Chanute, KS Eleven grandchildren and several great and great-great grandchildren She was preceded in death by two children, Elsie Mead and Colleen Raida. Graveside services will be held at 2:00 P.M. on Friday, July 9, 2010 at the Fredonia City Cemetery with Pastor Jim Logan officiating. Friends may call at Timmons Funeral Home on Thursday evening, 4:00 P.M.-6:00 P.M. The family suggests memorials to the American Cancer Society or the Humane Society and donations may be sent to the funeral home. Words of condolence for the family may be left on this website.
