Fidela Godinez, a beloved member of the Chanute community, passed away on February 21, 2025, at Neosho Memorial Medical Center in Chanute, Kansas, after a well-lived long life.
She was born on April 24, 1929, in Chanute, Kansas, and was cherished for her dedication to both her work and her community. She was united in marriage to Joseph Godinez on September 24, 1949, at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in Chanute, Kansas.
Fidela made history as the first female employee to work through retirement age and retire from the production line at Nu Wa Industries, Inc. She dedicated an impressive 21 years of service to the company, beginning her journey there in 1974. Known for her remarkable work ethic, Fidela often outperformed even the younger new employees, exemplifying the power of commitment and diligence in supporting a manufacturing company within the community. Her career also included 10 years at the Industrial Lamp Corporation and two years at the Peter Pan Ice Cream Company before that.
Beyond her professional achievements, Fidela was deeply committed to her faith. She loved her church and her Savior, embodying the principles of kindness and service throughout her life. In her younger years, she was known for her Good Samaritan deeds, providing meal preparation, laundry, and house cleaning for family members and neighbors in need, exemplifying her heart of service.
Fidela is survived by her son, James (Mary) Godinez of Chanute, Kansas, two grandsons, Adam (Tori) and Marcus (Stephanie) Godinez of Texas, and her great-grandchildren, Jackson, Gavin, Mia, and Dorothy who will carry on her legacy. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Joseph Godinez, and her brother Raul Quirarte who welcomed her into Heaven.
Memorials are suggested to St. Patrick’s Catholic Church and can be left with or mailed to the funeral home.
Rosary will be recited on Thursday, February 27, 2025, at 10:30 a.m., at St. Patrick's Catholic Church, Chanute, Kansas, followed by Mass of Christian Burial at 11:00 a.m. Burial will take place at St. Patrick’s Catholic Cemetery in Chanute.
Fidela Godinez will be remembered not only for her professional accomplishments but also for her unwavering compassion and the impressive impact she made in the lives of those around her. Her legacy will continue to live on in the hearts and minds of her family and friends.
