Eugene Leonard Kurtz

Eugene Leonard Kurtz, 83, a resident of rural Fall River, Kansas, formerly of St. Charles, Missouri, died Sunday, February 14, 2010, at Fredonia Regional Hospital. He was born December 10, 1926, Florence, Missouri, the son of Joels Herbert and Opal Mae (Worthley) Kurtz. Eugene served in the United States Army. On July 28, 1948, in Kansas City, Missouri, he married Evelyn Ruth Gilbert. She preceded him in death May 16, 2005. Eugene worked road construction for many years and retired as an operating engineer for All Purpose Sand in Bridgeton, Missouri. He was a member of the St. John"s United Church of Christ and a lifetime member of the American Legion in St. Charles, Missouri and a member of the Operating Engineers Local #513 in Bridgeton, Missouri. He spent many hours fishing and playing Bingo all around the area. His survivors include: Two daughters: Ruth Ann York of Mitchell, Indiana Shirley Crawford of St. Charles, Missouri One son: Larry Kurtz of Mitchell, Indiana One brother: Walter Wesley Kurtz of Maryland Heights, Missouri Eleven Grandchildren and Fourteen Great-Grandchildren. He was also preceded in death by his parents; one daughter, Twyla Marie; and one grandson, Aaron Kurtz. Funeral services will be held at 1:00 P.M. on Thursday, February 18, 2010 at St. John"s United Church of Christ in Florence, Missouri with Rev. Michael Miller officiating. Burial will be in the St. John"s United Church of Christ Cemetery in Florence. Visitation at Timmons Funeral Home will be Wednesday, Noon-5:00 P.M. The family will receive friends on Thursday, Noon-1:00 P.M. at the church in Florence. A memorial has been established in Eugene"s name with the American Diabetes Association and may be sent to the funeral home. Words of condolence for the family may be left on this website.
