Emma Klassen, 103, a longtime resident of Fredonia, Kansas died Sunday, January 9, 2011 at Golden Living Center in Fredonia. She was born December 7, 1907 in Medora, Kansas, the daughter of Abraham Klassen and Mary (Doerksen) Klassen. Emma attended school in Inman, Kansas where she graduated high school. She later had additional training in business school. While in Inman, Emma worked for the telephone office as an operator, and for a car dealership as a bookkeeper. In the 1930"s, she moved to Fredonia with her family and worked for the N.J. Oneal Car Agency for a period of time before becoming a cashier at the First National Bank in Fredonia. Emma was well known and liked by her co-workers and customers. She was a member if the Church of Bretheren for many years and played the piano for the church. She also had many other duties for the church and her faith kept her strong throughout her life. Emma"s survivors include: Three Nephews: Jack & Elaine Oneal and Family- Seattle, Wa Jerry and Suzy Oneal and Family- Fredonia, Ks Gary (Jim) Oneal and Family- Fredonia, Ks She was preceded in death by her parents, one sister Edna Oneal, and brother-in-law Carl Oneal. Graveside services will be held at 1:30 P.M., Friday, January 14, 2010 at the Fredonia City Cemetery with Carl Thornton officiating. A visitation has been scheduled from 2:00-6:00 P.M. on Thursday January 13 at Timmons Funeral Home, where the family will receive friends from 5:00-6:00 P.M. A memorial has been established in Emma"s name with Golden Living Center and can be sent to Timmons Funeral Home. Family condolences may be left on this website.
