Elizabeth "Betty" L. Schaplowsky, 94, of Cherryvale, Kansas, departed this life on Thursday, November 14, 2024, at Advena Living in Cherryvale, Kansas. 

Elizabeth Lois Schaplowsky was born on March 13, 1930, in Independence, Kansas, the daughter of Lewis Molidor and Elizabeth (Bauer) Molidor.

Betty completed her education by graduating from Cherryvale High School in 1948, followed by obtaining an associate degree from ICJC, and a teaching certificate from Kansas State Teachers College in Pittsburg, Kansas. She dedicated three years to nurturing young minds as a third-grade teacher in Peabody, Kansas. She was also a stay-at-home mom and raised 5 children.

On November 24, 1951, in Cherryvale, Kansas, she was united in marriage to August "Augie" Schaplowsky and he preceded her in death, July12, 2015.

An active member of St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church, Betty contributed to her community, serving in numerous capacities with the Altar Society and participating in events such as bingo at the parish hall. Her involvement extended to the local bowling league at Cherryvale Lanes, where she enjoyed many spirited matches with fellow bowlers.

In her leisure time, Betty delighted in gardening, canning, reading, embroidery, sewing, and attending numerous ballgames. She found joy in these hobbies, which provided her the opportunity to connect with family and friends. Betty cherished family gatherings and looked forward to the memorable moments spent with her loved ones.

Betty is survived by her children, Karen Carpino and her husband Randy of Paragould, Arkansas; Gary Schaplowsky and his wife Mary of Liberty, Kansas; Cindy Hill of Parsons, Kansas; and Tammy Blaich and her husband Steve of Coffeyville, Kansas. She also leaves behind a loving legacy of 11 grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren with one on the way, and 3 great-great-grandchildren.

Preceding her in death were her parents, Lewis Molidor and Elizabeth (Bauer) Molidor; her husband, August "Augie" Schaplowsky; her son, Terry Schaplowsky; and her son-in-law, Ted Hill.

Visitation will be held on Friday, November 22, 2024, from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM at St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church, located at 202 South Liberty Street, Cherryvale, Kansas. The rosary will follow, commencing at 7:00 PM. 

Mass celebrating her life will take place on Saturday, November 23, 2024, at 10:00 AM at the same location, with burial to follow at St. Francis Xavier Catholic Cemetery.

Memorial remembrances are suggested to the St. Francis Xavier Altar Society. They may be left or mailed to Wickham Family Funeral Home & Cremation Service, 216 East 4th, Cherryvale, Kansas 67335.
