Douglas David Yates, a devoted serviceman, passed away on Friday, July 5, 2024, at his home in Cherryvale, Kansas. 

He was born on April 15, 1952, in Tacoma, Washington the son of Donald Yates and Margaret (Lyons) Yates. Throughout his life, Douglas led an exemplary journey filled with diverse experiences and meaningful connections.

Douglas embarked on a noble career path by serving in the United States Marine Corps from 1972 to 1976. His dedication to his country led him to further pursue a career in the Air Force from 1979 to 2003 when he retired and attained the rank of Lt. Colonel. 

In the realm of education, Douglas excelled academically, obtaining a Master's degree in Sociology from the University of Northen Colorado. He also attended community college, St. Martin's University, University of Washington and graduated from Franklin Pierce High School in 1970.

Outside of his professional endeavors, Douglas found joy and relaxation in various hobbies and interests. Whether it was spending time bowling, fishing, cheering on his favorite sports teams such as the Seattle Seahawks and Mariners, or caring for Rottweilers and supporting the Washington Huskies, Douglas's passions enriched his life.

In his personal life, Douglas was cherished by many. He is survived by his daughter Dawn Yates (John Rau) of Liberty, Kansas; son Chris Yates of Overland Park, Kansas; son Gabriel Yates of Jacksonville, Florida; daughter, Kimberley DeBoer (Brian Roberts) of St. Augustine, Florida; stepsister Pam Baebler of Gig Harbor, Washington; his best buddy (dog) Laddie, along with seven grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

Cremation has taken place with private family services held at a later date under the guidance of Wickham Family Funeral Home, 216 East 4th, Cherryvale, Kansas 67335.
