Douglas L. Spencer, 68, of Fredonia, KS. passed away, Sunday, February 20, 2022 at Wilson County Medical Center Neodesha, KS. He was born on March 10, 1953 in Redding, CA. to Donald L. and Esther (Weingartner) Spencer. He attended Independence KS High School graduating in 1971.
On July 2, 1978 Douglas was united in marriage to the love of his life, Deborah Row, in Fredonia, KS. They enjoyed 43 blessed years together. She survives at the home.
Douglas enjoyed fishing, camping, traveling, bow hunting and nature watching. He loved to travel, grill, enjoyed KU, Big 12 sports, especially football and basketball and watching the Chiefs. He enjoyed sharing meals at Red Lobster with family and friends. One of the things Douglas loved most was giving of his talents and time serving the Lord, he was a member of the Bible Baptist Church of Neodesha KS.
Douglas worked at LaFarge Cement Plant for 40 years with his last 17-18 years being in the lab. 38 ½ of those years were on the midnight shift.
Douglas is survived by his wife Deborah, daughter-in -love Sarah Spencer, grandsons Jon, Jacob and Jeremiah of Pembroke, GA; bonus children, Robin Dorathy/Brian of AZ, Juan Bustelo /Carolina of San Juan, Argentina, Molly /Amos of Kansas City KS, Monica Yoder of El Campo, TX, Noemi Kiss/ Zoltan of Hungary, Stacey/Allen of Wichita, KS and Micheala of Morris IL; siblings, Donna Padilla of Joplin MO, Beverly/Dan Harris, Independence, KS, Danny/Patricia Spencer of Clarksville, AR EllaMarie/Gayle Inlow of Fredonia, KS, countless bonus grandchildren, aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews. Douglas had a mutual love for his church family, former LaFarge team and his many health care givers. Douglas was loved and will be missed by his “Fur Baby,” Sally.
Douglas was preceded in death by his parents, Don and Esther, his son Jeffry Spencer, infant son Joseph Spencer, infant grandson Austin Spencer and in-laws Norman and Darlene Row.
Services will be 11:00 am Saturday, February 26, 2022 at Wickham Family Funeral Home, 510 N. 7th Fredonia, Kansas. Visitation will be 10:00 am Saturday, February 26, 2022 until service time at the funeral home. Graveside services will follow at Carlisle Cemetery Toronto Lake.
Memorials are suggested to the Bible Baptist Church of Neodesha, KS or the Avenue of Flags and may be mailed or left at the funeral home.
