Dorothy Ann Bailey

April 24, 1938 — January 16, 2023

Dorothy Ann Bailey (Humphrey) aged 84 of El Dorado, KS, formerly of Cherryvale, passed away January 16, 2023, at Harry Hynes Memorial Hospice unit of St. Francis Hospital of Wichita, KS.

Born April 24, 1938, to John Benjamin (Buck) and Erma Fern (Fink) at their home in Cherryvale. She was known to most as Ann.

She attended McKinley Grade School and then Corbin City. Her father’s job took them to Kellogg, ID and on to Pratt, KS. While in Pratt a flood took most of the family’s possessions. It was at this time the decision was made to move back to Cherryvale.

Ann entered the 7th grade and went onto graduate high school in 1956.

Following graduation, she, and her friend Jackie VanCleave (Bright) moved to Wichita to attend business school. She also worked at the Wichita Eagle and the Institute of Logopedics. Upon returning to Cherryvale in 1958, she went to work for her Aunt and Uncle, Evelyn and Norman Fink at the Bruest Company in Independence, KS. She remained at the Bruest Company until 1970. In 1970 she followed Evelyn and Norman to Cherryvale to work for them at their new company, Charloma, Inc. She remained with Evelyn and Norman and then their son Chuck until her retirement in November 2017. She spent nearly 60 years working with her family.

Ann married Everett Lee Bailey on July 10, 1959, in Tulsa, OK at the home of Dighton and Merle Fink. During their marriage two children were born, Kimberly Ann and Troy Lee. The two remained married until Everett’s death in March 2003.

She was preceded in death by her parents, brothers Benjamin and James, son Troy and niece Shannon Gragg.

She is survived by her daughter Kimberly Holt (Alan), daughter-in-law Sherry Bailey. She is also survived by 4 grandchildren: Ann Marie Larson (Chris), Alexis Chard (Peter), Levi LeRoy (Alicia) and Mariah Bailey, 7 great grandchildren: Heath, Jesse, Lauren and Carmen. Ava and Elliott. Jasmyn "JuJu" Kebert, and 2 great-great grandsons.

She is survived by her loving sister Jeanne Housel, which they have been best friends their entire lives. She is survived by niece Melissa Gragg, nephew’s Jim Humphrey (Donna) and John Humphrey (Tina) as well as 4 great nephews and 6 great nieces and 1 great-great niece and 1 great-great nephew.

She was loved by all of her family and friends and in return she loved them dearly. She truly will be missed by her family.

Cremation has taken place with Celebration of Life services held 10:00 A.M., Saturday, April 15, 2023 at Fairview Cemetery in Cherryvale.

Memorial remembrances are suggested to Harry Hynes Memorial Hospice and they may be left or mailed to Wickham Family Funeral Home, 216 East 4th, Cherryvale, Kansas, 67335.
