Doris Jean McDonald

Doris Jean McDonald, passed away on Tuesday, June 18, 2024, at Morningstar Assisted Living in Fredonia, Kansas. 

She was born on July 12, 1930, in Fredonia to her parents Ruth (Duncan) Spence and Roger Spence. She grew up in Fredonia and attended Fredonia schools.

 Throughout her life, Doris touched the hearts of many with her warm personality and love for mowing, cross-stitching, watching wildlife, gardening, fishing, and cheering for the Kansas City Royals and Kansas City Chiefs Her presence brought joy to those around her, especially through her humor and culinary skills that will forever be cherished. She was a beloved homemaker known for her witty jokes and delicious cinnamon rolls, Doris dedicated herself to creating a loving home for her family. 

She was married to the love of her life, Loren "Mickey McDonald" November 26, 1947 in Independence, Kansas. Together they created a lifetime of memories filled with laughter and love. He preceded her in death February 17, 2003.

Doris is survived by her daughters Sherry Royce (Gary), Diane Hight, Trudy Nixon (Robert), Jan Miller (Steve), Nancy Novotny (Glen), 10 grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren, and 2 great-great-grandchildren. 

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband and brother, Bill Spence. 

A graveside service to honor Doris's life will be held on Monday, June 24, 2024, at Fredonia City Cemetery in Fredonia, Kansas. The service will commence at 10:00 AM with friends and family gathering to bid farewell to a remarkable woman who left an indelible mark on all who knew her.

Doris Jean McDonald will be remembered for her kind heart, infectious laughter, and the legacy of love she leaves behind. May she rest in eternal peace.
