Doris M. Droegemueller, 97, of Independence, Kansas passed away Monday, June 6, 2022, at Medicalodges in Independence.
Doris Mae Droegemueller was born August 30, 1924, in the family home east of Independence, Kansas. She was the daughter of Carl and Nannie (Ward) Sage.
She married Richard J. Gosnell on July 17, 1943, he died on February 9, 1961. They had one daughter, Julie, born on April 11, 1945.
Doris was united in marriage to Erwin G. Droegemueller September 18, 1965. He passed away September 11, 2003.
Doris had many adventures in her life. She was employed by Sinclair Pipeline Company in Independence. She then was transferred to Tulsa, Oklahoma, for several years. Sinclair became ARCO Pipeline, and she moved to Dallas, Texas and finally moving to Los Angeles, California, as an Executive Administrative Assistant, in the Engineering Department, after ARCO became British Petroleum. She and her husband Erwin were fortunate that both were being promoted and relocated together. After retirement they moved to Grand Junction, Colorado, for a few years and finally back home to Independence, Kansas.
Several years later, following Erwin’s death, Doris and her daughter decided to live together, and as she would say, they moved to the “farm” and finally moved into town in Cherryvale, Kansas. They enjoyed their pets, traveling, gambling, shopping trips, eating out and being best friends.
She loved her friends and they loved her; she had a great sense of humor as well as a great memory. At the age of ninety-five at one of the friends’ gatherings she was singing songs she had learned in grade school. She was a caring and generous woman.
She enjoyed her pets, traveling, cooking, golf, and fishing. She didn’t especially like small aircraft flying, but she did obtain her pilot’s license in her late 20s. She loved all sports, football, and basketball especially.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husbands, her brother Herbert R. Sage, and her Son-in-Law Bill Bateson, who was the apple of her eye.
She is survived by her daughter, Julie (Gosnell) Bateson, Cherryvale, a brother Roy Keith Sage of Independence, Kansas, Sister-in-Law Judith Ellsworth Independence, Kansas, several cousins, nieces and a nephew, and her best friend Madison Ballinger, Cherryvale, Kansas, who was by her side almost daily at the end of her journey in this life.
