Donald Paul Keenan was born on April 5, 1942, in Alliance, Ohio, and died on July 30, 2022, in Joplin, Missouri.
He grew up in Alliance, Ohio and at the age of 16, he received his pilot’s license. Then, at the age of 17, he joined the United States Air Force in November of 1959.
He met and married the love of his life Bonita Johnson of Pomona on August 11, 1961, in the First Church of the Nazarene in Topeka, KS. He spent 60 years with Bonita before her death on September 5, 2021, in Parsons, KS.
He was a dad to three children for 50-plus years and a grandfather to the grandchildren.
After 20 years of Military service in the Air Force, he retired in November of 1979.
He accepted Jesus Christ as his savior and felt the call to ministry. He graduated from the Nazarene Bible College in Colorado Springs, CO in 1982 with his Ministry degree. He continued his education to receive his BA from MidAmerica Nazarene (College) University graduating in May of 1983.
He took the pastoral position at the Church of the Nazarene in Burlington, KS. He served there and in the community for 10 years.
He took another pastoral position at the Church of the Nazarene in Cherryvale, KS. He served there and in the community for 10 years before retiring. During his retirement, he served and filled the pulpits for various churches.
He found friendship and companionship with Justine Canfield. They decided to spend the rest of their lives together before God. They were married on June 25, 2022.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Raymond Paul Keenan, and Marie (Johnston) Keenan, his beloved wife Bonita Kay Keenan, and a grandson, Bryan Jessip.
He is survived by his wife Justine Canfield Keenan of the home, his sister Diana Fontaine of South Carolina, his brother Dean (Pam) Keenan of Tennessee; his children: Kelly (Wayne) Jessip of DeSoto, KS, Shane (Vicki) Keenan of Independence, KS, Paul (Dawn) Keenan of Neodesha, KS; and his seven grandchildren: Leslie Jessip, Ashlyn Kukyendell, Braycee Sobley, Michael Keenan, Natosha Keenan, Casi Keenan, Logan Keenan, and several great-grandchildren.
Celebration of Life Services will be held 10:30 A.M., Tuesday August 16, 2022 at Wickham Family Funeral Home, 216 East 4th, Cherryvale, Kansas 67335.
