Dixie Lee Richwine

Dixie Lee (Stitt) Richwine, age 78, of Chanute, Kansas, passed away on October 20, 2023. She was born on January 5, 1945, in Chanute, Kansas, to her late parents Howard and Nona (Moynihan) Stitt. 


Dixie was a loving and caring individual who touched the lives of many. She was known for her humility, generosity, and hardworking nature.


She was united in marriage to Ronald Richwine on June 18, 1984, in Chanute, KS. They shared life and love for 39 years.

Dixie attended Chanute High School, graduating with the class of 1963. She went on to have a successful career, working as a clerk for the Santa Fe Railroad, Erie Court House, and Chanute Insurance Pool. She was a dedicated member of the Big Creek Methodist Church.


Dixie had a passion for the outdoors and enjoyed camping trips in her RV. She loved traveling and had visited 49 states. In her free time, she found joy in gardening and canning vegetables. Dixie had a keen sense of style and always kept up with the latest trends. She cherished her furbaby, Lexi, and enjoyed spending time with her.


Dixie is survived by her devoted husband of 39 years, Ronald Richwine, her sons Russ (Lisa) Cumings of Hampshire, IL, and Kurt (Gina) Richwine of Olathe, KS, her sister Cheryl Matlock of Chanute, KS, and her beloved grandchildren Hannah and Jacob Cumings, and Kyle and Luke Richwine, along with her three great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, brothers Wayne and Howard Stitt, and sister Opal Briley.


In memory of Dixie, contributions can be made to the KU Endowment for Parkinson's Disease research.


Visitation will be held at Wickham Family Funeral Home, located at 500 North Forest Ave., Chanute, Kansas 66720, Thursday, October 26, 2023, from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. 


A Celebration of Life Funeral Service will be held Friday, October 27, 2023, at 10:00 a.m. at the funeral home followed by burial at Bethel Cemetery, Rural Neosho County.


Dixie Lee Richwine will be deeply missed by her family, friends, and all who knew her. May her soul rest in peace.
