Dianna Sue (Ware) Shinn, or Jinx, as she was affectionately called, lost her battle with brain cancer on July 12, 2011 at her home in Fredonia, Kansas. Jinx was born at St. Margaret"s Mercy Hospital in Independence, Kansas, on May 22, 1948, the daughter of Patsy M. (Fischer) Ware and Merlin H. Ware. Jinx"s birth was an early struggle, weighing only 2 pounds and 2 ounces at birth, which left her confined to an incubator for over one month, and the nurses injecting blood under her skin to keep her warm. Grandmother Ware looked at her and said, "the thirteenth grandchild born, our little Jinx," and the nickname stuck for life. Jinx was reared in Altoona, Kansas. She received her schooling there, graduating from Altoona High School in 1966, the year she was football queen. After high school, Jinx was employed at the Matthew"s Airosol Plant in Neodesha, Kansas. On December 14, 1970, in Fredonia, she was united in marriage to Rodger Shinn. From this union, on August 17, 1975, a son was born. Jinx was a member of the Eastern Star, Fredonia VFW Auxiliary, Fredonia American Legion Auxiliary, and when she wasn"t physically handicapped, she loved playing golf at the Fredonia Golf Club. She is survived by: her father, Merlin H. Ware of Altoona: her husband, Rodger J. Shinn of Fredonia her son, Tracy Shane Shinn of Olathe one aunt, Mrs. Margaret Shafer of Neodesha as well as numerous cousins. Her mother, Patsy Ware, preceded her in death. Graveside funeral services will be held at 10:30 A.M. on Saturday, July 23, 2011 at the Fredonia City Cemetery. Words of condolence for the family may be written and submited on this website.
