Danny Wayne Sims, 66, long time resident of Fredonia, KS passed away on Tuesday, April 23, 2019 at his home.
Danny was born October 21, 1952 to Ray and Johnnie (Gurley) Sims in Springfield, Missouri. He moved to Fredonia in 1968 from Perryton, Texas and graduated from Fredonia High School in 1970. After graduating he enlisted with the United States Navy and was later honorably discharged.
On August 18, 1973 he was united in marriage to Judy Chapman and she survives at the home. To this union four children were born: Heather, Brandon, Justin and Dana.
Danny worked at LaFarge Cement Plant in Fredonia as a heavy equipment operator for 39 years.
Danny loved watching his grandchildren participate in their many activities, listening to southern gospel music, and playing Farkle. Danny will be remembered by all who knew him for his love for God and his family. Danny inspired many to not be ashamed of the Lord.
Survivors include his wife, Judy, of the home, Children: Heather Odell and husband Darrell of Fredonia, Kansas, Brandon Sims and wife Kelli, of Lenexa, Kansas, Justin Sims and wife Alyssa of Fredonia, Kansas and Dana Graham and husband Gentre of Blue Springs, Missouri, Stepfather: Floyd Gray of Fredonia, Kansas, Brothers: Ray Sims of Fredonia, Kansas, Charles Sims of Wister, Oklahoma, Michael Sims of Aurora, Colorado, and Steve Sims of Amarillo, Texas, Sisters: Linda Venneman of Spearman, Texas and Denise Haynes of Pampa, Texas, Grandchildren: Carter, Cooper and Campbell Odell; Tanner, Brooklyn, Landon, Parker, and Adalyn Sims; Zoey and Zeke Sims; Gracin, Lakin, Daxton and Karsin Graham.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Johnnie Gray, and sister, Lorraine Marr.
The family will receive visitors Thursday, April 25, 2019 from 6:00-8:00 p.m. at Wickham Family Funeral Home, 510 North 7th, Fredonia, Kansas.
Celebration of Life Services will be held at 1:00 p.m. Friday, April 26, 2019 at First Christian Church, 303 North 7th , Fredonia, Kansas.
Interment will follow the service at Koger/Cheatham Cemetery south of Fredonia.
The family suggests memorials to the Fredonia Church of Christ or Nationwide Youth Roundup. Donations may be left at or mailed to Wickham Family Funeral Home, 510 N. 7th Fredonia, Kansas. Electronic donations to Nationwide Youth Roundup can be made at www.nyr.org.
