Consolacion C. Bacani, 94, a longtime resident of Manila, Philippines, died Saturday, December 4, 2010 at Fredonia Regional Hospital. Mrs. Bacani had resided in Fredonia, Kansas for the past nine years with her son, Dr. Oswaldo C. Bacani and his family. She was born April 16, 1916 in Bataan Province, Philippines, the daughter of Pedro and Severina (Hernendez) Cruz. Mrs. Bacani was a self-employed businesswoman all of her adult life, retiring in 1994. Consolacion Cruz and Teodoro Bacani were united in marriage in Bataan Province, Philippines. Mr. Bacani preceded her in death August 28, 1998. Mrs. Bacani was a member of the San Roque Parish in Manila. She was a political leader in the district of Sampaloc, also in Manila. She was also given the national award as "Gintong Ina" (Golden Mother) and was the recipient of the Papal Award "Pro Ecclesia et Pontifice" (For the Church and For the Pontiff) and the senior citizen"s club. Her survivors include: Four sons: Pastor Bacani of Manila, Philippines Bishop Ted Bacani of Manila, Philippines Oswaldo C. Bacani, MD of Fredonia, Kansas Rudy Bacani of Makati, Philippines One daughter: Lucia Quimson of Manila, Philippines Fourteen grandchildren and eleven great grandchildren. Her parents, husband and son-in-law, Antonio Quimson preceded her in death. A Rosary followed by Mass will be said at 10:00 A.M. on Monday, December 13, 2010 at the Sacred Heart Church with Father Stephen Thapwa officiating. A memorial has been established in her name with the Fredonia Regional Health Care Foundation and can be sent to the funeral home. Words of condolence may be left on this website.
